Why did you decide to become a home inspector?
SF: “Friends and family encouraged me. I am constantly looking at things, analyzing them, and looking for ways to improve them. Home Inspection seemed like it would be a good fit for my interests”
What’s the one thing you wish every homeowner knew?
SF: “The homeowner needs to understand that a home is a living, breathing structure. It grows old, it settles, it wears and shows aging. It is part of my inspection to educate and inform the client that homes require maintenance, love, and care — and almost every obstacle can be addressed and resolved, you just need to be informed.”
What is the most surprising thing you’ve uncovered during a home inspection?
SF: “During one of my first inspections I came across a tree that was actually growing into the home. It was a big old maple, and not only had it compromised the structure, it was starting to encroach on the garage. It really made me think of Jeff Goldbloom in Jurassic Park: ‘nature will always find a way’.”
