Leadership Team

Alan Carson - President and Co-Founder

Alan has a Bachelor of Science degree from Waterloo University and has been guiding the company since inception, and remains fascinated by homes and home inspection. He has held many leadership roles in the profession and has been a prolific contributor through technical papers, textbooks, presentations at conferences and seminars, and as an association leader. The company started in home inspection in 1978, and home inspection remains the foundation of the company. Alan has led the diversification into commercial inspection, energy audits, education and report writing systems.

Alan has committed himself to development of the home inspection profession. He was one of the founding members of the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors (CAHPI) in 1982. Although this organization did not flourish immediately, it has become a major player in home inspection in Canada. Alan was also a founding member of the Ontario chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors. This chapter, now called the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI) was formed in 1987. Alan has served at several levels and is a Past-President of the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors.

Alan has also been active in the American Society of Home Inspectors (“ASHI®”), which is the leading international organization of home inspectors in North America. Alan has served on committees, including the Executive Committee and was ASHI President in 1994.

Richard Weldon – President – Commercial – Carson Dunlop Weldon

Richard graduated from the University of Toronto in 1987 with a degree in mechanical engineering. That year he started with Carson Dunlop & Associates Ltd. doing home inspections. He received his Professional Engineer designation in 1989 and Consulting Engineer designation in 1995. More recently, Richard received his LEED Accredited Professional in 2009.

After working in the home inspection field for a number of years, Richard’s interests turned more toward commercial building inspections. In 1997, Richard became a partner of Carson Dunlop Weldon & Associates Ltd (CDW). CDW specializes in Property Condition Assessments and Energy Solutions for commercial properties. CDW also performs condominium Reserve Fund Studies and Performance Audits. CDW provides commercial inspection training to public and private groups across North America.

Richard has served in various capacities with the Association of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), including Regional Councilor and Councilor-at-Large.

Robert Ho – Vice President of Education

Robert is responsible for leading and managing Carson Dunlop’s Education team. Robert has over 25 years of experience in the financial industry. Before joining Carson Dunlop, he worked for Dundee Bank and Scotia Bank as their Director and Senior Manager of Products, for their international division. Robert also held senior positions in sales leadership, foreign exchange, treasury, marketing, and operations with Citizens Bank of Canada, Travelex Global Payments, Western Union and Meridian Credit Union.

Robert holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with the University of Western Ontario and a Masters in Business Administration from Dalhousie University.

Adrian Key – Vice President of Operations and Controller

Adrian Key joined Carson Dunlop as Controller in the spring of 2008 bringing with him over 16 years of experience as an Accounting Manager and Controller in several industries, including commercial printing and the resort clubs.

Adrian is not only responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department and managing the staff, but also drives the financial and business reporting of Carson Dunlop for all levels of management. Adrian also plays a key role on the executive team, bringing both strategic thinking and financial responsibility to the leadership group.

Adrian graduated with Honours from George Brown College with a 3 year Business Administration Accounting diploma and is a fourth level Chartered General Accountant with the Ontario chapter.
